Anne Maye Hays (MSN 1968), U.S. Military’s First Female General died on January 7th in Washington D.C. General Anna Maye Hayes joined the Army Nurse Corp in 1942 and served in World War II, Korea and Vietnam.  Awarded the Distinguished Service Medal and Legion of Merit. She helped establish the Army Institute of Nursing at Walter Reed National Military Medical Center in Maryland.

General Hayes was promoted to general on June 11, 1970 by General William C. Westmoreland.
